Tamil Women Development Forum (TWDF)

The Tamil Women’s Development Forum—an organisation born from the resilience, creativity, and collective wisdom of Tamil women across the diaspora.

TWDF was founded in 1995 by a group of like-minded women committed to justice, healing, and empowerment. In 2002, it was formally brought under the umbrella of the Centre for Community Development (CCD) upon its registration as a UK charity, strengthening its reach and institutional foundation.

Our Vision:

To build a world where Tamil women—across generations and geographies—live with dignity, lead with confidence, and thrive in communities rooted in justice, creativity, and care.

Our Mission:

To empower Tamil-speaking women of Ilankai origin through education, advocacy, cultural programming, and community-led healing—bridging the diaspora with our homeland and transforming lives through inclusive leadership.

In Sri Lanka, TWDF has partnered with grassroots organisations to deliver vital programmes in human rights, health, education, and economic empowerment—especially for women affected by conflict and displacement.

In the UK, TWDF has hosted seminars on education and training, curated cultural events that celebrate Tamil heritage, and launched the Sudari Awards—a landmark initiative honouring the achievements of Tamil women across generations. These awards not only uplift our community but also bridge the diaspora with our homeland, fostering pride and solidarity.

We do not merely organise events—we orchestrate meaning. We do not simply serve communities—we co-create futures. And we do not just remember our heritage—we evolve it, with care and courage.

Together, we rise—not as individuals, but as a collective force for transformation.
